التين
AL-TĪN
THE FIG
meccan 8 Verses
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
The surah that opens with the oath of the Divine One swearing by The Fig and the olive, and other signs, representing the Holy Land in which God revealed the Evangel, the Torah, and the Quran, and thereby guided all mankind. It is named after “the fig” (al-tīn) mentioned in verse 1. The surah questions how man can deny the Judgement, and emphasizing the importance of faith and good deeds.The surah is also known as: The Figtree.

وَالتّينِ وَالزَّيتونِ

wa-t-tīni wa-z-zaytūni

By the fig and the olive,
2
وَطورِ سينينَ

wa-ṭūri sīnīna

by Mount Sinai,
3
وَهٰذَا البَلَدِ الأَمينِ

wa-hādhā l-baladi l-ʾamīni

by this secure town:1That is, the holy city of Makkah.
4
لَقَد خَلَقنَا الإِنسانَ في أَحسَنِ تَقويمٍ

la-qad khalaqnā l-ʾinsāna fī ʾaḥsani taqwīmin

We certainly created manin the best of forms;
5
ثُمَّ رَدَدناهُ أَسفَلَ سافِلينَ

thumma radadnāhu ʾasfala sāfilīna

then We relegated him to the lowest of the low,
6
إِلَّا الَّذينَ آمَنوا وَعَمِلُوا الصّالِحاتِ فَلَهُم أَجرٌ غَيرُ مَمنونٍ

ʾillā lladhīna ʾāmanū wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti fa-lahum ʾajrun ghayru mamnūnin

except those who have faith and do righteous deeds.There will be an everlasting reward for them.
7
فَما يُكَذِّبُكَ بَعدُ بِالدّينِ

fa-mā yukadhdhibuka baʿdu bi-d-dīni

So what makes you deny the Retribution?
8
أَلَيسَ اللَّهُ بِأَحكَمِ الحاكِمينَ

ʾa-laysa llāhu bi-ʾaḥkami l-ḥākimīna

Is not Allah the fairest of all judges?
