The surah that opens with the statement “Blessed is He in whose hands is all sovereignty”. It takes its name from Divine sovereignty (mulk) mentioned in verse 1. The surah challenges the disbelievers with declarations of God’s total power over them, and everything else, in this world and the next. It describes the regret the disbelievers will express on the Day of Resurrection (verse 9 . and verse 27).The surah is also known as: Control, The Dominion, The Kingdom.

تَبارَكَ الَّذي بِيَدِهِ المُلكُ وَهُوَ عَلىٰ كُلِّ شَيءٍ قَديرٌ
tabāraka lladhī bi-yadihi l-mulku wa-huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīrun-i
Blessed is He in whose hands is all sovereignty,and He has power over all things.
2
الَّذي خَلَقَ المَوتَ وَالحَياةَ لِيَبلُوَكُم أَيُّكُم أَحسَنُ عَمَلًا ۚ وَهُوَ العَزيزُ الغَفورُ
alladhī khalaqa l-mawta wa-l-ḥayāta li-yabluwakum ʾayyukum ʾaḥsanu ʿamalan wa-huwa l-ʿazīzu l-ghafūru
He, who created death and lifethat He may test you [to see]which of you is best in conduct.And He is the All-mighty, the All-forgiving.
3
الَّذي خَلَقَ سَبعَ سَماواتٍ طِباقًا ۖ ما تَرىٰ في خَلقِ الرَّحمٰنِ مِن تَفاوُتٍ ۖ فَارجِعِ البَصَرَ هَل تَرىٰ مِن فُطورٍ
alladhī khalaqa sabʿa samāwātin ṭibāqan mā tarā fī khalqi r-raḥmāni min tafāwutin fa-rjiʿi l-baṣara hal tarā min fuṭūrin
He created seven heavens in layers.You do not seeany discordance in the creation of the All-beneficent.Look again!Do you see any flaw?

ثُمَّ ارجِعِ البَصَرَ كَرَّتَينِ يَنقَلِب إِلَيكَ البَصَرُ خاسِئًا وَهُوَ حَسيرٌ
thumma rjiʿi l-baṣara karratayni yanqalib ʾilayka l-baṣaru khāsiʾan wa-huwa ḥasīrun
Look again, once more.Your look will return to youhumbled and weary.
5
وَلَقَد زَيَّنَّا السَّماءَ الدُّنيا بِمَصابيحَ وَجَعَلناها رُجومًا لِلشَّياطينِ ۖ وَأَعتَدنا لَهُم عَذابَ السَّعيرِ
wa-la-qad zayyannā s-samāʾa d-dunyā bi-maṣābīḥa wa-jaʿalnāhā rujūman li-sh-shayāṭīni wa-ʾaʿtadnā lahum ʿadhāba s-saʿīri
We have certainly adorned the lowest heavenwith lamps,and made them missiles against the devils,and We have prepared for thempunishment of the Blaze.
6
وَلِلَّذينَ كَفَروا بِرَبِّهِم عَذابُ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَبِئسَ المَصيرُ
wa-li-lladhīna kafarū bi-rabbihim ʿadhābu jahannama wa-biʾsa l-maṣīru
For those who defy their Lordis the punishment of hell,and it is an evil destination.
7
إِذا أُلقوا فيها سَمِعوا لَها شَهيقًا وَهِيَ تَفورُ
ʾidhā ʾulqū fīhā samiʿū lahā shahīqan wa-hiya tafūru
When they are thrown in it,they hear it blaring, as it seethes,
8
تَكادُ تَمَيَّزُ مِنَ الغَيظِ ۖ كُلَّما أُلقِيَ فيها فَوجٌ سَأَلَهُم خَزَنَتُها أَلَم يَأتِكُم نَذيرٌ
takādu tamayyazu mina l-ghayẓi kullamā ʾulqiya fīhā fawjun saʾalahum khazanatuhā ʾa-lam yaʾtikum nadhīrun
almost exploding with rage.Whenever a group is thrown in it,its keepers will ask them,‘Did there not come to you any warner?’
9
قالوا بَلىٰ قَد جاءَنا نَذيرٌ فَكَذَّبنا وَقُلنا ما نَزَّلَ اللَّهُ مِن شَيءٍ إِن أَنتُم إِلّا في ضَلالٍ كَبيرٍ
qālū balā qad jāʾanā nadhīrun fa-kadhdhabnā wa-qulnā mā nazzala llāhu min shayʾin ʾin ʾantum ʾillā fī ḍalālin kabīrin
They will say, ‘Yes, a warner did come to us,but we impugned [him] and said,‘Allah did not send down anything;you are only in great error.’
10
وَقالوا لَو كُنّا نَسمَعُ أَو نَعقِلُ ما كُنّا في أَصحابِ السَّعيرِ
wa-qālū law kunnā nasmaʿu ʾaw naʿqilu mā kunnā fī ʾaṣḥābi s-saʿīri
And they will say,‘Had we listened or applied reason,we would not have been among inmates of the Blaze.’
11
فَاعتَرَفوا بِذَنبِهِم فَسُحقًا لِأَصحابِ السَّعيرِ
fa-ʿtarafū bi-dhanbihim fa-suḥqan li-ʾaṣḥābi s-saʿīri
Thus they will admit their sin.So away with the inmates of the Blaze!
12
إِنَّ الَّذينَ يَخشَونَ رَبَّهُم بِالغَيبِ لَهُم مَغفِرَةٌ وَأَجرٌ كَبيرٌ
ʾinna lladhīna yakhshawna rabbahum bi-l-ghaybi lahum maghfiratun wa-ʾajrun kabīrun
Indeed for those who fear their Lord in secretthere will be forgiveness and a great reward.
13
وَأَسِرّوا قَولَكُم أَوِ اجهَروا بِهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ عَليمٌ بِذاتِ الصُّدورِ
wa-ʾasirrū qawlakum ʾawi jharū bihī ʾinnahū ʿalīmun bi-dhāti ṣ-ṣudūri
Speak secretly, or do so loudly,indeed He knows well what is in the breasts.
14
أَلا يَعلَمُ مَن خَلَقَ وَهُوَ اللَّطيفُ الخَبيرُ
ʾa-lā yaʿlamu man khalaqa wa-huwa l-laṭīfu l-khabīru
Would He who has created not know?And He is the All-attentive, the All-aware.
15
هُوَ الَّذي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الأَرضَ ذَلولًا فَامشوا في مَناكِبِها وَكُلوا مِن رِزقِهِ ۖ وَإِلَيهِ النُّشورُ
huwa lladhī jaʿala lakumu l-ʾarḍa dhalūlan fa-mshū fī manākibihā wa-kulū min rizqihī wa-ʾilayhi n-nushūru
It is He who made the earth tractable for you;so walk on its flanksand eat of His provision,and towards Him is the resurrection.
16
أَأَمِنتُم مَن فِي السَّماءِ أَن يَخسِفَ بِكُمُ الأَرضَ فَإِذا هِيَ تَمورُ
ʾa-ʾamintum man fī s-samāʾi ʾan yakhsifa bikumu l-ʾarḍa fa-ʾidhā hiya tamūru
Are you secure that He who is in the skywill not make the earth swallow youwhile it quakes?
17
أَم أَمِنتُم مَن فِي السَّماءِ أَن يُرسِلَ عَلَيكُم حاصِبًا ۖ فَسَتَعلَمونَ كَيفَ نَذيرِ
ʾam-ʾamintum man fī s-samāʾi ʾan yursila ʿalaykum ḥāṣiban fa-sa-taʿlamūna kayfa nadhīri
Are you secure that He who is in the skywill not unleash upon you a rain of stones?Soon you will know how My warning has been!
18
وَلَقَد كَذَّبَ الَّذينَ مِن قَبلِهِم فَكَيفَ كانَ نَكيرِ
wa-la-qad kadhdhaba lladhīna min qablihim fa-kayfa kāna nakīri
Certainly those who were before them had denied;but then how was My rebuttal!1Or, ‘how was My requital.’
19
أَوَلَم يَرَوا إِلَى الطَّيرِ فَوقَهُم صافّاتٍ وَيَقبِضنَ ۚ ما يُمسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا الرَّحمٰنُ ۚ إِنَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيءٍ بَصيرٌ
ʾa-wa-lam yaraw ʾilā ṭ-ṭayri fawqahum ṣāffātin wa-yaqbiḍna mā yumsikuhunna ʾillā r-raḥmānu ʾinnahū bi-kulli shayʾin baṣīrun
Have they not regarded the birds above themspreading and closing their wings?No one sustains them except the All-beneficent.Indeed He sees best all things.
20
أَمَّن هٰذَا الَّذي هُوَ جُندٌ لَكُم يَنصُرُكُم مِن دونِ الرَّحمٰنِ ۚ إِنِ الكافِرونَ إِلّا في غُرورٍ
ʾam-man hādhā lladhī huwa jundun lakum yanṣurukum min dūni r-raḥmāni ʾini l-kāfirūna ʾillā fī ghurūrin
Who is it that is your hostwho may help you, besides the All-beneficent?The faithless only dwell in delusion.
21
أَمَّن هٰذَا الَّذي يَرزُقُكُم إِن أَمسَكَ رِزقَهُ ۚ بَل لَجّوا في عُتُوٍّ وَنُفورٍ
ʾam-man hādhā lladhī yarzuqukum ʾin ʾamsaka rizqahū bal lajjū fī ʿutuwwin wa-nufūrin
Who is it that may provide for youif He withholds His provision?Rather they persist in defiance and aversion.
22
أَفَمَن يَمشي مُكِبًّا عَلىٰ وَجهِهِ أَهدىٰ أَمَّن يَمشي سَوِيًّا عَلىٰ صِراطٍ مُستَقيمٍ
ʾa-fa-man yamshī mukibban ʿalā wajhihī ʾahdā ʾam-man yamshī sawiyyan ʿalā ṣirāṭin mustaqīmin
Is he who walks prone on his face better guided,or he who walks uprighton a straight path?
23
قُل هُوَ الَّذي أَنشَأَكُم وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمعَ وَالأَبصارَ وَالأَفئِدَةَ ۖ قَليلًا ما تَشكُرونَ
qul huwa lladhī ʾanshaʾakum wa-jaʿala lakumu s-samʿa wa-l-ʾabṣāra wa-l-ʾafʾidata qalīlan mā tashkurūna
Say, ‘It is He who created you,and made for you hearing, eyesight, and hearts.Little do you thank.’
24
قُل هُوَ الَّذي ذَرَأَكُم فِي الأَرضِ وَإِلَيهِ تُحشَرونَ
qul huwa lladhī dharaʾakum fī l-ʾarḍi wa-ʾilayhi tuḥsharūna
Say, ‘It is He who created you on the earth,and toward Him you will be mustered.’
25
وَيَقولونَ مَتىٰ هٰذَا الوَعدُ إِن كُنتُم صادِقينَ
wa-yaqūlūna matā hādhā l-waʿdu ʾin kuntum ṣādiqīna
They say, ‘When will this promise be fulfilled,should you be truthful?’
26
قُل إِنَّمَا العِلمُ عِندَ اللَّهِ وَإِنَّما أَنا نَذيرٌ مُبينٌ
qul ʾinnamā l-ʿilmu ʿinda llāhi wa-ʾinnamā ʾana nadhīrun mubīnun
Say, ‘Its knowledge is only with Allah;I am only a manifest warner.’
27
فَلَمّا رَأَوهُ زُلفَةً سيئَت وُجوهُ الَّذينَ كَفَروا وَقيلَ هٰذَا الَّذي كُنتُم بِهِ تَدَّعونَ
fa-lammā raʾawhu zulfatan sīʾat wujūhu lladhīna kafarū wa-qīla hādhā lladhī kuntum bihī taddaʿūna
When they see it brought near,the countenances of the faithless will be distorted,and [they will be] told, ‘This is what you asked for!’
28
قُل أَرَأَيتُم إِن أَهلَكَنِيَ اللَّهُ وَمَن مَعِيَ أَو رَحِمَنا فَمَن يُجيرُ الكافِرينَ مِن عَذابٍ أَليمٍ
qul ʾa-raʾaytum ʾin ʾahlakaniya llāhu wa-man maʿiya ʾaw raḥimanā fa-man yujīru l-kāfirīna min ʿadhābin ʾalīmin
Say, ‘Tell me,whether Allah destroys me and those with me,or He has mercy on us,who will shelter the faithlessfrom a painful punishment?’
29
قُل هُوَ الرَّحمٰنُ آمَنّا بِهِ وَعَلَيهِ تَوَكَّلنا ۖ فَسَتَعلَمونَ مَن هُوَ في ضَلالٍ مُبينٍ
qul huwa r-raḥmānu ʾāmannā bihī wa-ʿalayhi tawakkalnā fa-sa-taʿlamūna man huwa fī ḍalālin mubīnin
Say, ‘He is the All-beneficent;we have faith in Him, and in Him do we trust.Soon you will knowwho is in manifest error.’
30
قُل أَرَأَيتُم إِن أَصبَحَ ماؤُكُم غَورًا فَمَن يَأتيكُم بِماءٍ مَعينٍ
qul ʾa-raʾaytum ʾin ʾaṣbaḥa māʾukum ghawran fa-man yaʾtīkum bi-māʾin maʿīnin
Say, ‘Tell me,should your water sink down [into the ground],who will bring you running water?’
