The surah that opens with the mention of God as the Lord of The Daybreak and that teaches one to seek refuge in Him from the evil in creation and from all who envy the blessings of God in others. It takes its name from “the daybreak” (al-falaq) mentioned in verse 1. The surah is used as an invocation against evil.The surah is also known as: The Dawn, The Rising Day.

قُل أَعوذُ بِرَبِّ الفَلَقِ
qul ʾaʿūdhu bi-rabbi l-falaqi
Say, ‘I seek the protection of the Lord of the daybreak
2
مِن شَرِّ ما خَلَقَ
min sharri mā khalaqa
from the evil of what He has created,
3
وَمِن شَرِّ غاسِقٍ إِذا وَقَبَ
wa-min sharri ghāsiqin ʾidhā waqaba
and from the evil of the dark night when it settles,
4
وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفّاثاتِ فِي العُقَدِ
wa-min sharri n-naffāthāti fī l-ʿuqadi
and from the evil of the witches who blow on knots,
5
وَمِن شَرِّ حاسِدٍ إِذا حَسَدَ
wa-min sharri ḥāsidin ʾidhā ḥasada
and from the evil of the envious one when he envies.’
